The Experiences We Never Forget Were Never an Accident
There was a time when I didn't realize I had a choice.
I believed life was simply a series of things that happened to me.
Good things happened.
Hard things happened.
People came.
People left.
I was reacting to life, rarely questioning the lens through which I was experiencing it.
Then life began inviting me into a series of deaths and rebirths.
Each one softened a belief I thought was absolute.
Each one expanded the way I saw myself, others, and the world around me.
Slowly, I began to realize that no two people are having the same experience—even when they're living through the very same moment.
We each bring our own history.
Our own beliefs.
Our own fears.
Our own hopes.
Those become the lens through which we interpret life.
That realization changed the questions I asked.
I stopped asking,
"Why is this happening to me?"
Instead, I became curious.
What is actually happening here?
What story am I telling about it?
Is that story true... or simply familiar?
What meaning am I creating?
Is this meaning serving me?
What else might be true?
Is there a pattern I'm being invited to notice?
What is this experience asking of me?
What am I in relationship with—not just around me, but within me?
Am I reacting from an old story...
Or responding to what is actually here?
Those questions changed everything.
I began to realize that life isn't just a collection of events.
It is a continuous relationship between what happens... and the meaning we create from it.
That relationship shapes our experience.
Our experience shapes our perspective.
Our perspective shapes our choices.
And over time, those choices shape the life we come to believe we're living.
Over the years, those questions have taken me into homes, hospitals, retreats, classrooms, boardrooms, conversations, and communities. I've had the privilege of witnessing people from every walk of life create moments that others would carry with them for decades.
And I've noticed something.
The experiences we never forget are almost never an accident.
Long before the moment itself, someone made a choice.
To be present.
To pay attention.
To prepare.
To listen.
To care.
To honor another person's humanity.
The visible moment may only last minutes.
The invisible intention behind it may last a lifetime.
That's why I'm writing this book.
Not to teach people how to manufacture memorable moments, but to explore how we become better stewards of the experiences we're already creating—whether we realize it or not.
Because every interaction leaves something behind.
The question is...
What are we leaving in the lives of others?
